OpenAI Publishes 722 Math Manuscripts Produced by Unreleased Internal Model

OpenAI released 722 mathematical manuscripts from an internal frontier model, with partial progress on Millennium Prize problems. Mistral previewed its 1T-parameter Le Chonk model, and Apple plans LG-made smart home gear.

OpenAI Publishes 722 AI-Produced Math Manuscripts

OpenAI has released a broad range of new mathematical results produced by an internal frontier model, publishing 722 manuscripts organized into 372 families in a GitHub repository. The company says the work covers 377 math problems and claims to fully solve 90 of the top 500 open problems in mathematics, with results averaging about three hours per problem and nearly all produced from a single prompt handed to a single AI agent.

Among the highlighted results are partial progress on three Millennium Prize problems: the Riemann Hypothesis, the Hodge Conjecture, and the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer Conjecture. The release includes a quasi-Riemann hypothesis result showing the zeta function has no zeros with real part above 7/8, a matrix multiplication exponent of no more than 2.25 compared with a previous record of about 2.37, integer multiplication faster than n log n, and a resolution of the Kakeya conjecture in R^3. OpenAI says it consulted with the independent Advisory Group on Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence at the Institute for Advanced Study, though none of the results have been confirmed by outside mathematicians yet.

Mistral Previews 1T-Parameter Le Chonk Model

Mistral has launched a public preview of Mistral Large 4, a one-trillion-parameter multimodal model code-named Le Chonk. The company says the model, which has 49 billion active parameters, is the best open-weights model from the US or Europe on aggregated benchmarks and is state of the art on workloads including cyber defense, manufacturing, and finance, surpassing closed frontier models. Mistral says it was trained on 3,800 NVIDIA Grace Blackwell GPUs at its European datacenters, including a cluster in Bruyères-le-Châtel built with Series B funding, and that the open-weights release is due October 27.

Apple and LG Team Up on Smart Home Devices

Apple is preparing a smart home push that includes a doorbell, deadbolt lock, thermostat, indoor camera, outdoor camera, and floodlight camera co-developed with LG Electronics. The products will carry the LG brand, with LG handling manufacturing and product support, and are intended to outfit an ecosystem centered on a smart home hub, a new HomePod mini, and an updated Apple TV with Siri AI. The accessories are at least a few more months away, and Apple's own privacy-centric home camera and sensor are planned for next year separately from the LG partnership.
