Apple closes above $5 trillion market cap for the first time

Apple shares closed at $342.96 on Wednesday, up 0.5% on the Nasdaq, giving the iPhone maker a market value of approximately $5.01 trillion and making it the second company to finish a trading day above $5 trillion after Nvidia.

Apple Closes Above $5 Trillion for the First Time

Apple has closed a trading day with a market capitalization above $5 trillion for the first time. Shares of the iPhone maker closed at $342.96 on Wednesday, up 0.5% on the Nasdaq, giving the company a market value of approximately $5.01 trillion at the closing bell. Apple had previously crossed the $5 trillion threshold during intraday trading but had not held above it by the market close. Wednesday marked the seventh time the stock moved above $5 trillion during a session, climbing as high as $347.07 before easing back from its record high of $348.15.

Driven by the Latest Product Cycle

The milestone makes Apple only the second publicly traded company to finish a trading day valued above $5 trillion, following Nvidia. It comes less than a month after Apple shares closed at what was then a new record high, as investors responded to the company's latest product cycle, including the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone Duo and the wider rollout of Siri AI. Apple reached the $5 trillion mark less than a year after briefly topping a $4 trillion market capitalization, underlining the scale of the company's rise in value over the past 12 months.

A Rare Green Day for Big Tech

The move was also notable because it came during a broadly weaker session for major technology stocks. Nvidia, Meta, Microsoft, Amazon and Google parent Alphabet all finished lower, while Apple ended the day in positive territory.

Attention Turns to Earnings

Attention will now turn to Apple's next earnings report, when investors will get a clearer indication of how demand for the company's latest products and rising component costs are affecting its financial performance. The milestone caps a remarkable run for the stock, which has added roughly $1 trillion in market value in under a year.
