Apple updates Final Cut Camera for the iPhone 18 Pro's variable aperture

Apple has released a new update to Final Cut Camera that supports the iPhone 18 Pro's adjustable aperture and the phone's new camera settings. The company highlighted the variable aperture when it announced the iPhone 18 Pro earlier this month, making an app update the natural follow-up. The same release brings a collection of new features to Apple's Creator Studio apps, for subscribers and non-subscribers alike.

What changes in Final Cut Camera

Beyond supporting the new hardware, Final Cut Camera has been redesigned so the camera settings Apple now surfaces on its Pro phones are easier to reach. Adjusting ISO and white balance is simpler, and a two-finger tap clears the screen to show the viewfinder. Because Final Cut Camera can control the iPhone remotely through Final Cut Pro, the same settings, aperture adjustments included, can be made from a nearby iPad or Mac.

What a variable aperture means for capture

Aperture controls how much light reaches the camera sensor and how deep the in-focus area of a shot is. A variable aperture lets that setting change while you shoot instead of staying fixed by the lens hardware. Apple says Final Cut Pro and Motion now support editing the depth of field and focus points of videos shot on the iPhone 18 Pro, carrying that control into post-production.

Updates across the Creator Studio apps

For Creator Studio subscribers, Apple is adding new templates and themes to Pages, Keynote, Numbers and Pixelmator Pro. Keynote can now automatically generate images that match the content of a presentation slide, while the subscription iPad version of Pixelmator Pro gains the Select and Mask tools ported from the Mac release.

Non-subscribers also receive new features. Pages, Numbers, Keynote and Freeform now let users request access to view or edit a shared file. Pages' Screen View option optimizes document content for reading and focused writing, Numbers adds trigonometry, statistics and logic functions, and Freeform boards adapt to dark mode, can be organized into collections and fully support Apple Intelligence's Writing Tools.

All of the updates are rolling out today, though some features require specific hardware or a subscription. Final Cut Camera's new camera settings need an iPhone 18 Pro, while Pixelmator Pro's new templates require the $13-per-month Creator Studio subscription.
