Asus Oxiis E250G1: a clip-on booster that turns any bike electric
The ASUS Oxiis E250G1 is a 3.7 kg friction-drive booster with a 500W peak motor and a 158 Wh battery that turns ordinary bicycles into e-bikes without modifying gears or brakes.
ASUS has listed the Oxiis E250G1, an accessory it calls an intelligent bike booster, on its global product pages. The device is a friction-drive motor system that attaches to a conventional bicycle and turns it into a smart e-bike. ASUS says the name merges the Greek words Oxis, for agility, and Axis, for pivot, reflecting the behaviour of the drive core.
What the booster adds
The system mounts above the rear wheel and presses a motorised roller against the tire, so the bike needs no changes to its gears or brakes. ASUS lists adaptive boost technology that detects inclines and adds assistance on climbs, a wireless cadence sensor, and a brake-detecting taillight that improves visibility at night. The housing is aluminium, with an anti-slip mechanism that adjusts pressure on the tire and a heat-dissipation design meant to reduce the risk of overheating.
Battery, range and modes
Power comes from a removable 158.4 Wh, 36 V battery that charges in about two hours over 100 W USB-C Power Delivery and is flight-safe for carry-on luggage, subject to airline approval. ASUS rates the motor at 250 W continuous and 500 W peak, with a top speed of 32 km/h — limited to 25 km/h in some regions — and a range of roughly 50 km in Eco mode, falling to about 10 km in Sport. The ASUS Oxiis app for Android and iOS, or a button on the unit itself, switches between Eco, Normal and Sport assistance.
Compatibility and weight
The booster weighs 3.7 kg with its battery and measures 400 x 84 x 128 mm. ASUS says it fits city, road, gravel and folding bikes as well as hybrid and hardtail mountain bikes, but not full-suspension models, and supports tire widths up to 60 mm and wheel sizes from 16 to 29 inches plus 700C. It clamps to seat posts between 25.4 and 34.9 mm using included spacers, although carbon fibre posts are excluded for safety. Knobby tires are not recommended. ASUS notes that riders remain responsible for local traffic law and speed limits, and that unauthorised power or speed modifications void the warranty.
