NvidiaWatch Tracker Logs 462 GPU Driver Bugs Across Nvidia Updates
A GitHub programmer has built NvidiaWatch, a tracker site that compiles Nvidia driver release notes, forum feedback, and progress on 462 known GPU driver bugs, helping users avoid problematic updates.
NvidiaWatch Tracks 462 Driver Bugs
A GitHub programmer has created a website called NvidiaWatch that compiles the release notes and feedback threads from Nvidia's forums for each GPU driver update, logging progress on 462 different driver bugs. The project was first shared in late September, and the creator released an update about it on the r/Nvidia subreddit earlier this week.
How the Tracker Works
Each bug gets its own page, so anyone affected by an issue can easily check whether the latest driver update has already solved it. Each driver update also receives a dedicated page that includes the release notes, the fixed bugs, and the open issues that Nvidia could not address yet. The site adds a chart for every release that tracks how many known issues were fixed during that update, fixed in a later release, remained open, or were carried over from an earlier driver release.
Checking Before Updating
The tracker is useful for anyone running into problems with Nvidia hardware, since it shows whether the company has recognized an issue and what it has done about it. The creator also suggests consulting NvidiaWatch before updating a GPU driver, so users can avoid nasty surprises such as the fan control bug that arrived with the GeForce 595.59 driver.
A WindowsWatch Could Be Next
The original report also floats the idea of a similar service for Windows updates, described as a WindowsWatch site. Such a tool could help users determine whether an update is problematic, letting them roll back or pause updates before encountering an issue, while a trend graph could pressure Microsoft to fix problems more quickly. This would be complicated to build, however, because Windows has many different versions and some updates only affect a few of them.
