Cricut's StickerPix Print and Print + Cut machines make stickers at home from $169

Cricut, the company behind a growing lineup of cutting, embossing and heat-pressing machines for home crafters, has introduced two devices built for stickers: the Cricut StickerPix Print and the Cricut StickerPix Print + Cut. Both are available now, starting at $169 and $299 respectively, Engadget reports.

Two machines, one printing system

The StickerPix Print is the smaller of the two at 7.8 x 5 x 3.5 inches and prints on 4 x 6-inch photo paper or Cricut's pre-cut sticker sheets. The StickerPix Print + Cut measures 8 x 11.3 x 4.1 inches, works with 4 x 7-inch sticker sheets and 4 x 6-inch photo paper and, because it can cut, frees users from the fixed shapes of Cricut's pre-cut sheets.

According to Engadget, it is the first time Cricut has combined its cutting technology with a printer in a single machine.

Dye-sublimation printing with a protective laminate

Both models use dye-sublimation printing: heat transfers dye directly onto the material being printed, and the machines then add a laminate layer that makes the results water-, scratch- and fade-resistant.

Cricut's other machines need a separate inkjet printer and special laminate sheets to produce similar results, so for people whose main interest is printing photos and stickers, the StickerPix line can save a lot of space.

There is one limitation. Both devices can only make so-called kiss-cut stickers, which stay attached to a single sheet instead of separating from their backing paper the way die-cut stickers do.

Software, subscription and price

Like the rest of Cricut's lineup, both StickerPix models require the Cricut Design Space app on a phone or computer, which also nudges users toward Cricut Access, the company's subscription that offers more templates and discounts.

Each machine ships with sticker sheets, photo paper and an ink cartridge in the box. Prices start at $169 for the StickerPix Print and $299 for the Print + Cut.
