Developer Uses Claude to Bring Xbox Cloud Gaming Natively to Jailbroken PS5s

Brazilian developer RafaelNGP has released a Homebrew app called PSBox Cloud Gaming that runs Xbox Cloud Gaming natively on jailbroken PS5 consoles, with up to 4K upscaling using the console's GPU.

A PS5 Runs Xbox Cloud Gaming

Brazilian developer RafaelNGP has created a Homebrew application called PSBox Cloud Gaming that lets jailbroken PS5 consoles run Xbox Cloud Gaming natively. The project was released for download on GitHub and was built in part using Anthropic's Claude AI assistant.

According to the developer, setup is straightforward. Users download a .zip file from the GitHub repository, extract it to a specific folder, and wait for a Homebrew loader to mount the application like a game. After launching, they sign in as usual, using their phone with a code displayed on the TV.

4K Upscaling and DualSense Support

The app currently streams at 1080p60, but it can be upscaled to 4K using the PS5's GPU. Two upscalers are supported: AMD FSR 1 and Anime4K. The mod also allows up to four DualSense controllers to be connected and mapped to Xbox inputs for compatibility with Xbox Cloud Gaming.

Known Issues and a Fast Remote Play Update

Early testers report that the application is not perfect. Reported problems include video macroblocking, pink artifacts, and vibration issues with the DualSense controllers, while other users say they are having a good experience overall.

The project quickly evolved further. In response to a comment under the Reddit post on r/PS5_Jailbreak asking whether the app could use Xbox Remote Play to stream games from a user's own Xbox to the PS5, RafaelNGP said it did not work yet, but released an update days later enabling that feature.

The mod follows other jailbreak work on the PS5, such as the emulation of the original Xbox on the console, and illustrates how the jailbreaking community continues to expand what Sony's hardware can do beyond what the company intends.
