Google Teases Fitbit Edge Fitness Tracker Ahead of October 12 Reveal

Google has confirmed the name and design of its upcoming Fitbit Edge fitness tracker in social media posts, setting a reveal date of October 12. The device is expected to sit between the Fitbit Air and Pixel Watch 5.

Google Confirms Fitbit Edge Name and Reveal Date

Google has officially teased its upcoming Fitbit Edge fitness tracker, confirming both the name and an October 12 reveal date. Posts on Instagram and X from the Google Health account include an image of what appears to be a side button on the new wearable, along with the caption "Get an Edge on your health. 10.12.26." The capitalization of "Edge" appears to confirm the product name, while the date points to when Google plans to unveil the device.

Positioning and Features

The Fitbit Edge is expected to slot between the screenless Fitbit Air, which Google launched earlier this year, and the more premium Pixel Watch 5. Images of the device have circulated since at least August, when 9to5Google spotted an unnamed fitness tracker in some of Google's Pixel 11 marketing materials. The name was not revealed until Android Headlines shared images of the Fitbit Edge earlier this week, along with details of its built-in apps and health tracking features. Those details were further fleshed out in a report from French magazine Dealabs, which confirmed the device's design and name.

Battery Life and Price

According to the Dealabs report, the Edge will reportedly last for up to seven days on a charge if its always-on display is disabled, and two days if it is on. The device could cost €179, about $200, when it goes on sale in Europe. Considering the Fitbit Air starts at $99 in the US and €99 in Europe, the new tracker could wind up being closer to $180 in the US. The last similarly sized fitness tracker Google introduced was the Fitbit Charge 6 in 2023, so the company is due for a new release. If it matches everything reporting has described, the Fitbit Edge seems like a natural step up from the Fitbit Air, and another way to push people toward a Google Health Premium subscription.
