iCloud+ Hide My Email addresses will remain on icloud.com

Apple has updated its developer notice about Sign in with Apple, confirming that new relay addresses move to a new domain later this year, while iCloud+ Hide My Email addresses stay where they are.

A new domain for new addresses

According to the update published on August 24, new Sign in with Apple addresses, previously issued on privaterelay.appleid.com, will be issued on private.icloud.com starting later this year. Addresses already created on privaterelay.appleid.com will keep working and mail will continue to be forwarded to users without interruption, so existing accounts and app logins are not affected.

Hide My Email stays on icloud.com

Apple also said that after further consideration and a review of community feedback, iCloud+ Hide My Email addresses will remain on icloud.com. That removes the worry that existing Hide My Email aliases used in newsletters, shopping accounts or support threads would have to be replaced or registered again.

What developers need to do

The notice asks developers whose apps or websites use Sign in with Apple to make sure their account systems, email validation logic and allowlists accept addresses on private.icloud.com in addition to the existing privaterelay.appleid.com domain. A hard-coded check that treats the old domain as the only valid relay address can reject legitimate users once the new addresses start to appear.

Apple points to its Sign in with Apple overview and the documentation for the Private Email Relay Service for implementation details. The change applies to newly issued addresses only; the sign-in flow for existing users does not change on its own.
