iOS 27.2 Brings Podcasts and Siri AI Changes to CarPlay
Apple's iOS 27.2 update changes CarPlay's Podcasts app and Siri AI. The Podcasts Home tab now has New Episodes and Continue Playing sections, while Siri can recall past chats and draw on more sources.
Apple has officially released iOS 27.2, and because CarPlay runs from a connected iPhone, the update also changes the in-car experience. CarPlay gets a redesigned Podcasts app Home tab, Siri AI upgrades, a new Music app icon, and reported loss of APTV video playback support on some infotainment systems.
Podcasts app changes
The Podcasts app Home tab now includes a New Episodes section and a Continue Playing section. Apple removed the Up Next section and replaced it with those two. Users looking for the latest installments of shows they follow can go to New Episodes. Users who want to resume a show from where they left off can find it in Continue Playing.
Siri AI upgrades
Siri AI on CarPlay can now recall past conversations, so users can ask it to repeat earlier recommendations such as cafe suggestions from a previous chat. It can also draw from more sources for more detailed responses, including voicemails, Safari history and Reading List, attendees in Calendar events, and photos attached in Messages.
Minor changes and reported issue
The update includes a new Music app icon. Apple changed the recognizable red color to a monochromatic design: white with a black music note, or black with a white note in dark mode. Users on the CarPlay subreddit are also reporting that their infotainment systems no longer support APTV, which lets them play videos on their car screen, after updating to iOS 27.2.
