Meta acquires Conductor to strengthen AI developer products
Meta is buying AI coding startup Conductor, which lets developers run multiple AI coding agents at once. The deal reflects a broader race by major AI companies to lock developers into their own platforms.
Meta is acquiring AI coding startup Conductor, a tool that lets developers control multiple AI coding agents at the same time. Conductor CEO Charlie Holtz confirmed the deal in a blog post without disclosing a price. According to Axios, the acquisition is meant to strengthen Meta's AI developer products.
Conductor's shutdown plans
Conductor Cloud shuts down on November 20, and the desktop app will stop receiving new models in early 2027.
A broader push to lock in developers
Because AI models are easily interchangeable, major AI companies are buying startups that build tooling around those models. The goal is to lock developers into their own platforms.
