Nvidia Pledges $2 Billion for Europe and $250 Million Compute for UK AI Safety Labs
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang announced $2 billion in new investments across Europe during a Paris stop, while the company committed $250 million in compute to UK AI safety labs over five years.
Europe Investment Push
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang announced $2 billion in new investments across Europe while in Paris, according to Bloomberg. Nvidia spent about $8 billion in Europe last year.
Huang also promoted open-weight models as a way for Europe to close its AI gap and repeated his pushback against calls to slow down development.
French Startup Stakes
Huang disclosed new stakes in French startups Doctolib, Genesis AI, Pigment and Entalpic. The European tour also includes London and Berlin.
UK Safety Compute
Nvidia is donating $250 million in compute over five years to UK labs working on AI agent safety and security. The recipients include BOLD at Oxford, SOFAIR at UCL and Imperial College London. Their work covers open-ended learning, open-source AI architectures and robotics safety.
UK AI Minister Kanishka Narayan called the move a vote of confidence in the UK's world-leading strength and expertise in AI research, likely pointing to the government-backed AI Security Institute.
