Quake-SRP Ports id Software's 1996 Quake to the Browser, Software Rendered in Rust
Quake-SRP is a browser port of id Software's 1996 Quake, rewritten in Rust from the GPL source and software rendered without a GPU. The shareware episode is included, and owners can add their own files.
A 1996 Classic, Rebuilt in Rust
Quake-SRP is a port of id Software's 1996 Quake, rewritten in Rust from the game's GPL source code and software rendered directly in the browser. According to the project page, the port needs no GPU and no dependencies, and it ships with the shareware episode, id's original quake106.zip at 9.1 MB. The source code is available on GitHub.
Two Presets: Classic and Slop
The port offers two presets. The classic preset reproduces id's WinQuake engine exactly, with every slop option off, while the slop preset applies the port's own settings, each of which is also a variable, such as wasm_showfps 1 or host_maxfps 60. Players can open the page with ?classic or ?slop to start in either preset. Both reset keys, options and video after asking, while saved games stay.
Controls and Console Commands
Controls cover WASD movement, mouse look, and gamepad support, with idcontrols switching to id's own 1996 controls: arrows, no mouse look, no gamepad, Always Run off. The console, opened with the tilde key, supports cheats and level select, including god for invulnerability, noclip to walk through walls, fly mode, give for armor and ammo, impulse 9 for all weapons and ammo, map to jump to a level, and kill to respawn. F6 and F9 handle quicksave and quickload, and F12 takes a screenshot as a .pcx file stored in the page's storage.
Add Your Own Files
Owners of Quake can drop their copy's id1/pak1.pak for episodes 2 to 4, a mission pack's hipnotic/pak0.pak or rogue/pak0.pak, and the CD music files onto the page, or choose files manually. The files stay in the browser. The mission packs Scourge of Armagon and Dissolution of Eternity can be selected on the start screen, reloading the page as ?game=hipnotic or ?game=rogue. Quake is a trademark of id Software, and quake-srp is not affiliated with or endorsed by id Software.
