Silknet Breaks Ground on Georgia's First Tier III Certified Commercial Data Center

Silknet has broken ground on Georgia's first commercial data center designed for Uptime Institute Tier III certification, the company announced in August 2026. The facility is being built in Tbilisi and is expected to become operational by 2027.

Capacity and certification

The project will deliver 2 MW of high-resilience capacity engineered for the high-density power requirements of modern AI workloads and large-scale enterprise operations. The design targets both Tier Certification of Design Documents (TCDD) and Tier Certification of Constructed Facility (TCCF). Those certificates require that maintenance can be carried out without interrupting service — a condition that matters to banks, technology companies, public sector organisations and other operators of mission-critical systems.

Partners on the project

The data center will be developed by Silknet and operated by Silk Cloud, the company's wholly owned cloud and managed services subsidiary. Orange joins as a key partner, continuing the strategic alliance the two companies established under the Orange Alliance programme in 2024; this is the largest project under that agreement so far. Integrated Solutions, a subsidiary of Orange Poland, helped define the technical requirements, led partner selection and supervised the feasibility study and concept design, and will provide technical advisory support during construction. BCG advises on business strategy and market positioning, Atos worked on the feasibility study and concept design, Coteccons Construction is the EPC leader, and Huawei Technologies supplies key infrastructure components and expertise from large international data center projects.

Infrastructure and services

Through Silk Cloud the site will offer local cloud infrastructure with ultra-low latency, hybrid cloud integration, round-the-clock monitoring, managed IT services, advanced cybersecurity and hyperscale-ready infrastructure. It sits on top of Silknet's national network — more than 4,000 km of fibre backbone with cross-border connections into Armenia, Azerbaijan and Turkey and onward routes to Europe, the Middle East and Asia. The data center will operate on a carrier-neutral basis, so customers can also take fibre connectivity from other Georgian internet providers and build redundant, multi-carrier architectures.

According to Silknet, combining its connectivity network with Silk Cloud's cloud, AI and ICT services will allow Georgian organisations to keep data inside the country while meeting the same security and performance standards available abroad, supporting data sovereignty and digital resilience. Located at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, the facility is designed to serve Georgia and the wider Caucasus and Black Sea region.
