Sony will skip CES 2027 and shift its focus to entertainment

Sony will not take part in CES 2027. The company told Bloomberg that neither it nor its affiliates plan to show off products at the January event, and Nikkei was the first to report the decision. Sony's press conference had been a fixture of the Las Vegas trade show for decades.

What Sony said

"We continuously and strategically evaluate our approach to events and communications based on the needs and priorities of our diverse business," Sony said in a statement to Bloomberg. The company notes that it is placing greater emphasis on entertainment (games, anime, films and music), on its intellectual property, and on technology that supports creators.

Context: Afeela and Bravia

Sony did not have its own booth at CES 2026, although a prototype of the Afeela, the electric vehicle it was developing with Honda, was displayed on the show floor. A few months later, Sony Honda Mobility dropped the EV project, and the two partners said they would review the direction of their joint venture.

The company has also stepped back from other consumer electronics categories. It handed the Bravia television brand over to TCL.

PlayStation stays

Sony continues to build gaming hardware. Its PlayStation division has been expanding into peripherals such as monitors, headphones and speakers. The company has not announced the PlayStation 6 yet, but if it does present the console next year, it will not be doing so at CES.
