Supabase raises $150M led by Singapore's GIC and agrees to buy Turso

The open-source Postgres platform announced a $150 million funding round led by Singapore's GIC, four months after its $500 million Series F, and agreed to acquire Turso, a database built for AI agents.

Supabase, the company behind the open-source Postgres development platform, announced on October 2 a $150 million funding round led by Singapore sovereign wealth fund GIC. Alphabet's growth fund CapitalG, IronArc and SquarePeg also participated. In the same announcement, the company said it has agreed to acquire Turso, a database platform optimized for AI agents, for an undisclosed sum.

The round comes just four months after Supabase's $500 million Series F, as AI coding tools and agents drive another sharp increase in the company's growth.

Agent-driven growth

Supabase says it is now adding more than 1 million users and 4 million databases every month, with 70% of new databases created by agents or AI-driven tools. In June, the company reported a 600% year-over-year increase in databases hosted on its platform.

"The past year has been the fastest growth in our history by a wide margin," said Paul Copplestone, co-founder and CEO of Supabase. In his view, the future belongs to agents, and Turso's architecture will help Supabase establish itself as the backend platform for that future.

CapitalG general partner Derek Zanutto described Supabase as the critical open infrastructure layer powering the AI revolution, and one of the fastest-growing private database companies.

Why Turso

Turso offers a database optimized for AI agents, built on SQLite, an open-source relational store with a small hardware footprint. Its architecture can provision large numbers of isolated, on-demand databases per agent, in the public cloud and in bring-your-own-cloud deployments. Its customers include Superhuman, Sauna.ai, CTO.new and Mastra.

The platform supports embeddings and encrypts each database page in a slightly different way, which reduces the risk of hacking. As agents spin up millions of databases to store the information they collect, Supabase argues that this pattern, at such a scale, requires an evolution in database infrastructure.

What happens next

The Turso platform will keep operating, with a clear graduation path into the rest of the Supabase ecosystem, the company says. Turso founder Glauber Costa will join Supabase as Head of Agentic Services together with co-founder Pekka Enberg and the rest of the team. Costa said that from the start, his goal was to serve upwards of a billion databases for customers.

Supabase, founded in 2020 and used by more than 13 million developers, will use the new funds to provide liquidity for employees and to build new AI agent features. The deal also complements Supabase Compute, a service introduced the same day that provides hosted sandboxes for long-running AI agents.
