What the service offered

The tool rendered public X profiles and posts in a clean, easy-to-read format. Its promise was simple: no sign-in, no app to install, just open a link. The service started free and later added a subscription tier.

Why it stopped

A notice on the site's front page states that as of August 28, 2026 the website has been permanently discontinued, following a request from X Corp. The operator confirmed that all cached content has been deleted and that subscribers had their subscriptions cancelled and refunded. The notice is published in English, German and Japanese, which points to an international user base.

The wider context

Twitter Viewer was not an isolated case. Nitter and XCancel, two services that showed X posts without an account, also went offline around the same period after legal action from X Corp. The platform has been steadily narrowing third-party access to its data, pushing users toward the official app and the paid API.

What it means for users

Reading public posts without an account is getting harder. Journalists, researchers and people who simply do not want to register are looking for alternatives, including Mastodon and Bluesky. The open question is how far platform control over data can be squared with easy access to information that is public in the first place.
