Anthropic filing shows nearly $900 billion in compute commitments and slowing revenue growth
Anthropic's revised filing says compute and infrastructure commitments now total about $895 billion, while revenue growth slowed from the first half of 2026 and the company warns growth may not continue.
Anthropic's revised IPO filing discloses nearly $900 billion in compute and infrastructure commitments, with estimated additional payments that could push the total beyond $1 trillion. The company reported $33.2 billion in revenue for the nine months ended September 30, 2026, a 1,206% year-over-year increase, but said it does not expect revenue to keep growing at comparable rates and cannot assure that it will continue to grow at all.
Commitments and payment timeline
The filing says Anthropic expects to pay nearly $70 billion in contractual obligations by September 2027 and roughly $447.5 billion in commitments by the end of 2030. That assumes revenues continue to rise, which the prospectus says is far from guaranteed. Anthropic's ability to meet these obligations depends on significant revenue growth, and a shortfall could leave it relying on debt or equity financing that may dilute shareholders or require unfavorable borrowing terms.
Of the $895 billion in contracts, roughly $320 billion relates to existing contractual obligations and about $451 billion covers leases that have been signed but have not yet commenced. The company expects those leases to begin between 2026 and 2028, although some remain subject to termination rights or other conditions. Anthropic values blank checks written to secure adequate compute at $150 billion to $175 billion, putting its total compute tab somewhere north of $1 trillion.
Some spending cannot be avoided. Deals with Microsoft, Google, Amazon and Broadcom total $437 billion and are non-cancellable, with some requiring payment regardless of whether Anthropic uses a single GPU. The company estimates that only about $213 billion of its $895 billion in contracts allow it to avoid payments.
Revenue growth is slowing
Anthropic said revenue grew nearly 2.5 times between the first and second quarters of 2026. In the third quarter, reported revenue of nearly $17 billion represented an increase of 46 percent from the second quarter. In the same period, compute and infrastructure costs grew 77 percent, while the company kept signing deals that commit it to more spending.
The filing also says purchase commitments now total closer to $895 billion, up from more than $800 billion reported last week. The company warns that if revenues do not grow faster than compute commitments, it could fall into a nasty spiral, though it also notes that such risk language is common in IPO filings.
Customers and distribution
The revised filing says cloud marketplaces accounted for roughly 44 percent of revenue in the nine months ended September 30, 2026. Amazon, Google and Microsoft are among Anthropic's biggest compute providers, and the company relies on hyperscalers for distribution. Anthropic says none of its customers accounts for more than 10 percent of revenue, but warns that reliance on hyperscalers remains a risk because they are developing competing products or provide access to rivals' models.
Outlook
Despite the risks, Anthropic says it can become a sustainable business if it can access enough compute capacity. The prospectus claims AI will reshape the economy in ways greater than the impact of industrialization, electricity, semiconductors and the internet. It also warns that reliance on long-term financing could dilute existing shareholders or force borrowing on unfavorable terms.
