Mistral Previews Mistral Large 4, Dubbed Le Chonk
Mistral has launched a public preview of Mistral Large 4, a one-trillion-parameter multimodal model with 49 billion active parameters, dubbed "Le Chonk." The company says it is the best open-weights model from the US or Europe on aggregated benchmarks, claiming state-of-the-art results on cyber defense, manufacturing and finance workloads, and saying it surpasses closed frontier models on visual grounding.
Mistral says the model was trained from scratch on 3,800 Nvidia Grace Blackwell GPUs in its European datacenters, including its cluster in Bruyères-le-Châtel, with much of the training data multilingual. Artificial Analysis scored the preview 38 on its Intelligence Index, calling it the most intelligent model from outside the US and China, with results comparable to DeepSeek V4.1 Flash. On a test that asks a model to reproduce a real vulnerability in open-source software and then patch it, ML4 scored 82%, the highest of any model. Open weights are due October 27.
Apple and LG Partner on Smart Home Devices

The products will carry the LG brand, with LG handling manufacturing and product support. The accessories are meant to outfit Apple's new smart home ecosystem, centered on a smart home hub, a new HomePod mini and an updated Apple TV, all with Siri AI. The products are at least a few months away, with details expected on October 13.
OpenAI Publishes 722 AI-Generated Math Manuscripts
OpenAI has released a broad range of new mathematical results produced by an internal frontier model, publishing 722 mathematical manuscripts and supporting proof artifacts in a GitHub repository. The company says it consulted with the independent Advisory Group on Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence at the Institute for Advanced Study, and released details such as estimations of compute spent in terms of ChatGPT Pro usage.
Meta and Partners Unveil Personal Agent Protocol
Meta, Sierra, Walmart, Shopify, Stripe, Genesys and others have published the Personal Agent Protocol, an open standard intended to define how personal AI agents interact with businesses. The effort follows Meta's launch of Muse, its personal agent. Separately, Decagon open-sourced PACT, a consent and trust layer built with Instinct, and joined the protocol effort.
