Ayaneo's Konkr sub-brand has opened preorders for the Konkr Pocket Block, a miniaturized handheld modeled on Nintendo's Game Boy. The device starts at $89, but early buyers can currently reserve it for $79. Engadget reported the details on September 28.
A screen made for retro emulation
The Pocket Block carries a 3.3-inch LCD with a 960 x 720 resolution and a 4:3 aspect ratio, a shape that suits emulating games from older consoles. Inside, Ayaneo has fitted a MediaTek Helio G85 chip that should run titles up to the PlayStation and Nintendo 64 generations, though it may struggle with anything from the PlayStation 2 or GameCube era.
Ports, storage and price tiers
Ayaneo rounded out the handheld with a 3.5mm audio jack, a microSD slot for extra storage, a USB-C port and Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support. Two configurations are on offer. The 2GB memory and 32GB storage model comes only in gray, while the 3GB and 64GB version is sold in gray, purple and white starting at $99. According to Ayaneo, the first units will ship by the end of October.
AI claims and the rest of the lineup
When the Konkr Pocket Block was first announced, the company billed it as the "world's first AI handheld", but Ayaneo has not yet detailed what AI-powered features will be available. Buyers looking for a more premium vertical device can look at the Pocket Vert, which launched earlier with an early-bird price of $269. Ayaneo is better known for expensive PC handhelds, and the Konkr line marks its move into cheaper hardware.
