Oracle expands OCI AI options with Google TPUs, OpenAI tools, Snowflake and Nvidia Vera Rubin
Oracle said OCI customers will gain Google TPUs from 2027, new OpenAI integrations, a native Snowflake service, and general availability of Nvidia Vera Rubin NVL72 systems.
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure customers will soon have more AI options, as Oracle announced Google Tensor Processing Units for OCI from 2027, new OpenAI-powered products, a native Snowflake service, and general availability of Nvidia Vera Rubin NVL72 systems and Vera CPUs. The announcements came at an Oracle event in Las Vegas, where the company also pointed to record quarterly revenue growth while broader AI payoff concerns remain.
Google TPUs and chip diversification
Oracle said its deal to bring Google TPUs to OCI will make it the first hyperscale cloud platform outside Google's own cloud services to offer the chips. The chips will be available within OCI beginning in 2027, with capacity increasing over several years. Oracle did not state quantities. OCI president Mahesh Thiagarajan said different AI workloads have different compute needs and that bringing Google TPUs to OCI gives customers flexibility to choose infrastructure for performance, throughput, and economics. Oracle has also inked Nvidia deals worth tens of billions of dollars, including a reportedly troubled Texas project with Nvidia and OpenAI.
OpenAI and Snowflake partnerships
Oracle announced new ChatGPT integrations and two products incorporating OpenAI models. Oracle AI Workspace is billed as a single user experience that brings OpenAI frontier models together with Oracle applications, enterprise data, and cloud services through ChatGPT plugins. Oracle said it will make Oracle capabilities agent-ready and accessible to ChatGPT users. Oracle AI Security Mesh is a managed platform that combines frontier AI models for cybersecurity with Oracle security expertise; it will use OpenAI cybersecurity models to find vulnerabilities, test whether they can be exploited, and recommend fixes in authorized areas. Separately, Oracle and Snowflake agreed to bring Snowflake's AI data cloud to OCI as a native service, with Oracle handling pricing, discounts, and billing and allowing Oracle Universal Credits to be used through Snowflake on OCI.
Nvidia hardware and business backdrop
Oracle announced general availability of Nvidia Vera Rubin NVL72 systems and Nvidia Vera CPUs, along with plans to introduce HGX Rubin NVL8 systems, without specifying when. Thiagarajan said combining Nvidia Vera Rubin GPUs and Vera CPUs with Oracle Acceleron networking and AI-optimized data centers helps customers keep GPUs productive, secure, and scale efficiently. Oracle posted record earnings in the quarter ending August 31, with revenue up 30 percent year over year. The source notes little evidence of similar returns outside the tech sector and signs that the AI bubble has begun to burst in China, while businesses continue to wait for AI results.
