Fedora Linux 45 Released With Stratis Installer Support

Fedora Linux 45 is available with polished desktop upgrades, Stratis storage support in Anaconda, updated toolchains, and migration guidance for retiring NetworkManager VPN plugins.

The Fedora Project has announced the release of Fedora Linux 45 for desktop, server, edge, and cloud systems. The release brings polished desktop upgrades, powerful installer features, and updated toolchains. Existing Fedora users can upgrade using Fedora documentation, and installation media is available at getfedora.org.

Installer and storage

One major highlight is integrated support for Stratis storage in the Anaconda installer. Stratis wraps device-mapper, XFS, and LUKS in an easy-to-use interface and includes thin provisioning, storage pooling, dynamic filesystem sizing, snapshots, and encryption. During custom partitioning, users can launch the Cockpit storage module from Anaconda to build Stratis pools across one or more physical drives and create dynamic / and /home filesystems. For automated installs, Anaconda supports --type=stratis with autopart, alongside dedicated stratispool and stratisfs Kickstart commands.

Desktops and toolchains

Updated desktop stacks across GNOME, KDE Plasma, and community spins bring improved performance, refined Wayland support, and better fractional scaling. Updated development tools and runtime libraries provide access to the latest language features, compiler optimizations, and core system utilities. Powered by recent Linux kernel releases, Fedora 45 includes broad hardware support, improved laptop power management, and enhanced container performance.

Availability and support

Flagship editions include Fedora Workstation, Fedora KDE Plasma Desktop, Fedora Server, Fedora Cloud, and Fedora CoreOS and Fedora IoT. Atomic Desktops include Silverblue, Kinoite, and Sericea, while Fedora Spins include options such as Cinnamon, Xfce, MATE, and COSMIC. Users encountering bugs can visit the Ask Fedora discussion forum or check the Common Issues section. Two legacy NetworkManager VPN plugins, NetworkManager-vpnc and NetworkManager-fortisslvpn, are retiring and will be obsolete starting in Fedora Linux 45, with migration information available in a linked article.
