Firefox for iOS now ships a native ad blocker

Mozilla's support documentation describes an optional ad blocker in Firefox for iOS that uses an EasyList-based filter list, is off by default and is being rolled out progressively.

Mozilla has documented a built-in ad blocker in Firefox for iOS in its support knowledge base. According to the article, the browser now includes an optional ad blocker that blocks many ads before they load and uses a filter list based on EasyList. Ad blocking is turned off by default, so users choose whether to enable it.

What it blocks

When the feature is enabled, Firefox blocks many types of advertising at the network level. The list covers third-party advertising networks and exchanges, ad-related trackers, many third-party ads served by websites, and intrusive formats such as pop-ups and overlays. Mozilla cautions that not every advertisement can be blocked, because websites use different advertising technologies and some serve ads in ways the current filter list does not cover.

What stays in place

The support article is explicit about the limits. Ads shown on search engine results pages are not blocked — Google, Bing and DuckDuckGo are named — and neither is sponsored content on the Firefox Home or New Tab page, which users continue to manage through their Homepage settings. The FAQ answers both questions directly, and notes that some sites simply serve ads in ways the filter list does not reach.

How to turn it on

Ad blocking can be switched on in Settings: open the menu, tap Settings, scroll to Browsing and use the Ad Blocker toggle in the Content section. It can also be toggled for the current browsing session from the Site menu, which opens the same setting when you tap Ad Blocker on an open page. Mozilla notes that the feature can be disabled at any time from either place.

Rollout status

The knowledge base describes the feature as experimental and says it is being introduced through a progressive rollout, which means it may not yet be available to all users; remote improvements must also be enabled for it to appear. The page was last updated on 16 August 2026, and Mozilla links it to its existing Enhanced Tracking Protection for iOS and to its "Respectful Ads" initiative.
