Georgia's National AI Team Wins Seven Medals at IOAI 2026 in Astana

Georgia's national artificial intelligence team won seven medals at the third International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI 2026), held in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan. The team collected two gold, three silver and two bronze medals, as well as one honorable mention, and finished seventh in the team standings among 109 countries.

The gold medals went to Nikoloz Gegenava and Giorgi Maisuradze. Nikoloz Kipshidze took silver, together with Anton Ingorokva and Mate Rekhviashvili, while bronze went to Luka Berikelashvili and Nikoloz Kiladze. Giorgi Tskitishvili received an honorable mention.

Of the medalists, only Nikoloz Kipshidze studies at Public School No. 136; the rest attend the V. Komarov Tbilisi Physics and Mathematics Public School No. 199.

Months of preparation and the coaching team

Before the olympiad, the team spent months in intensive preparation at the tech olympiad hub established on the basis of Business and Technology University (BTU). The training was organized by the Georgian Artificial Intelligence Association (GAIA) with support from TBC. As part of GAIA's special olympiad program, participants studied practical areas of artificial intelligence, machine learning and data science.

Shota Elkanishvili was the team's head coach, assisted by co-leads Luka Darsalia and Nika Mikaberidze.

What is IOAI

IOAI is one of the world's most prestigious school technology competitions, bringing together the best young talents from more than 100 countries. The Astana edition was the third in the series, and it was Georgia's second participation.
