Geostat Launches AI Chatbot and Rolls Out AI in Official Statistics Production

Georgia's National Statistics Office (Geostat) has begun the intensive use of artificial intelligence (AI) in its work from 2026. According to the agency, the rollout is an important stage of its digital transformation and aims to improve the production of official statistics, raise the efficiency of internal workflows and offer users modern, fast and accessible services.

AI capabilities have been integrated both into customer-facing digital services and into data processing, analysis, methodological support and information technology processes.

An AI chatbot on the official website

One of the key developments is an AI-based chatbot launched on the office's official website, where it runs under the name "Geostat's assistant". The service lets users ask questions in plain language about economic, social, demographic and other official statistical indicators and receive an immediate answer.

The system automatically processes a request, searches for the relevant data and, where necessary, points the user to the corresponding statistical publications and databases.

AI in internal processes and IT

Artificial intelligence also supports Geostat's internal work: with AI assistance the office is updating and refining its methodological documentation, supporting the classification and processing of administrative data, analysing data, monitoring databases and optimising workflows — steps the agency says markedly increase the speed and quality of its work.

On the IT side, AI is used in software development, writing and optimising code, developing algorithms, testing systems and introducing new digital solutions, which helps automate technical processes, improve software quality and shorten the development cycle.

A new NACE classifier portal

In July the office presented a new AI-based search portal for the NACE classifier. It allows a user to describe an economic activity in text or by voice and quickly find the matching NACE Rev.2 code. The portal is available in Georgian and English and is intended for businesses, public-sector employees and any interested user, at nace.geostat.ge/ka.

"Our goal is to use modern technologies to further increase the efficiency of statistical processes, simplify access to data and offer users fast, innovative and high-quality services," executive director Gogita Todradze said. According to the agency, AI will continue to be integrated gradually at different stages of the production and dissemination of official statistics, following international best practice and modern technological standards.
