What Gloomberb is

Gloomberb is a free, open-source finance terminal that ships as a desktop application or as a terminal user interface (TUI). The project describes it as fast, keyboard-driven and extensible through plugins; the code is published on GitHub, and installers for Windows and macOS are available from its releases page. A browser version runs at term.gloom.sh, where a ticker can be passed directly in the address.

A command bar instead of menus

The product is built around a single command bar. Typing a ticker or a shortcut such as DES AAPL or TOP opens the corresponding market view instead of a menu. The same logic runs through the whole app: MOST shows top gainers, losers and most active tickers, HM opens a heatmap of large US stocks and ETFs, WEI lists global equity indices, ECON tracks economic events and releases, CORR compares return correlations between tickers, GC draws yield curves, FXC shows major FX cross rates and FNG displays a fear-and-greed gauge.

Research, markets and a workspace

Company research covers quotes, charts, financials, filings, holders, insiders, options, analyst ratings, events and relative valuation; dedicated shortcuts include DES, ANR, HDS, SEC and 13F filings. Market coverage adds ranked stories, breaking news, sector feeds, indices, currencies, macro events, movers and sentiment. The third layer is a working environment: portfolios with risk and sector exposure, watchlists, broker connections, alerts, a notes scratchpad, AI screens, prediction-market data from Polymarket and Kalshi, congress trading disclosures, TheBuildout infrastructure intelligence and a Gloom Cloud chat pane.

Why it matters

Professional market terminals have traditionally been closed, expensive products. Gloomberb takes the opposite route — public code, a free download and a keyboard-first interface that keeps the workflow close to the shell.
