McKinsey Tests AI Client Simulations in Interviews
Consulting firm McKinsey & Company will ask some entry-level job candidates to hold a 10-minute conversation with an AI simulation of a client as part of the interview process, according to The Wall Street Journal. The tool is being tested with undergraduates seeking business-analyst positions in some of the firm's North American offices this fall, and the Journal reports that hundreds of candidates may use it.
How the Simulation Works
The AI simulation aims to reflect 80% of the scenarios McKinsey consultants might encounter in their day-to-day work, the Journal says, and it is not designed to mimic an unhinged client. Importantly, the AI will not score the candidates. Humans will be in the room to assess how well applicants handle the simulated situations.
AI Avatars Spread Across Hiring
McKinsey is not alone in experimenting with AI in recruiting. Other companies are also building tools that use AI avatars as part of the job interview process. The Verge's Hayden Field tried some of those tools out for a video published in March.
