Meta has acquired Conductor, an AI coding startup that lets users spin up software projects by deploying multiple agents into parallel workspaces. The news was reported by Axios and shared by Conductor on its blog, while Meta confirmed the acquisition to TechCrunch but declined to provide further details. Conductor founder and CEO Charlie Holtz said the company has plans for a new interface and expects something new for customers by early next year.
What Conductor does
Founded in 2024, Conductor launched its core product last summer. Its agentic teams can be deployed in the cloud, locally, or via a user's phone, and are designed to help software engineers work on separate, compartmentalized parts of a project in concert. The agents are not developed in-house; they come from major labs such as Anthropic and OpenAI.
What changes for users
Holtz said Conductor's core features will continue to work as they previously have until early next year. The exception is the company's cloud service, which will shut down on November 20, after which Conductor will begin deleting user cloud data. On X, Holtz also said he looked forward to working with Alexandr Wang, Meta's chief AI officer, and Nat Friedman, head of product at Meta's Superintelligence Labs.
Meta's AI push
Meta previously lagged behind in AI services and has spent recent months trying to catch up. In August, the company launched Muse Code, its own coding agent, and its recently launched Muse agents have surpassed 10 million users. Meta has also made AI-related acquisitions over the past year, including Moltbook, a viral agent platform.
