Meta on Two Fronts: Cloud Business Inspired by SpaceX and the Brain-to-Text Revolution

Meta is selling spare AI compute following SpaceX's model, while FAIR's Brain2Qwerty v2 achieves 39% word error rate in non-invasive brain-to-text decoding.

Meta's Cloud Business: Following the SpaceX Playbook

Meta is building its own cloud business to sell spare AI compute to outside customers, following SpaceX's proven playbook. SpaceX has deals worth $1.25B/month with Anthropic and $920M/month with Google. Meta's stock jumped 10% on the news, and the company has spent $145B on AI infrastructure this year.

Brain2Qwerty v2: Non-Invasive Brain-to-Text

Meta's FAIR research team released Brain2Qwerty v2, a non-invasive brain-to-text model using magnetoencephalography (MEG). From 9 volunteers typing 22,000 sentences, the word error rate dropped to 39% on average (best: 22%). The model uses a fine-tuned Qwen3 language model.

AI Optimizing AI

Three AI agents based on Claude Opus 4.6 wrote optimization code for the Brain2Qwerty system. Led by neuroscientist Jean-Rémi King, the research was published in Nature Neuroscience.
