Python 3.15 Released With Experimental JIT Compiler Running Faster
Python 3.15 is out as the newest annual feature release for the Python programming language. The JIT compiler remains experimental but is now 7 to 8 percent faster on Linux x86-64 and 11 to 12 percent faster on AArch64 macOS.
Python 3.15 Arrives With Faster Experimental JIT
Python 3.15 is out today as the newest annual feature release for the Python programming language. The release continues the project's work on a JIT compiler, which remains in experimental form but delivers meaningful performance gains over the standard interpreter.
According to the release coverage, the JIT compiler should be 7 to 8 percent geo mean faster on Linux x86-64 over Python's standard interpreter. On AArch64 macOS, the JIT compiler is said to be 11 to 12 percent faster over the tail-calling interpreter.
New Language and Standard Library Features
Python 3.15 introduces the sentinel built-in type and a new frozendict built-in type. UTF-8 is now the default encoding of Python 3.15, and explicit lazy imports are available for faster Python script startup times. The release also adds package startup configuration files.
Further improvements include better error messages, standard library enhancements, and C API improvements. Python 3.15 also enables frame pointers by default for improved system-level observability.
