Tencent Launches Hy4, an Open-Source AI Model With Visual and Computer-Use Capabilities

Tencent announced Hy4, its latest-generation large language model, describing it as a significant leap in performance that ranks among the world's leading open-source AI models. Tencent Hy plans to release model weights and system cards in the coming days, with a focus on cybersecurity and biological safety, and said Hy4 introduces visual understanding and computer-use capabilities for the first time.

Model and workplace capabilities

Tencent said Hy4 improves instruction following, long-context comprehension and long-horizon agentic tasks. Its visual features support fine-grained image processing, complex chart analysis and mathematical visual reasoning, while computer-use capabilities let it interact with command-line and graphical user interfaces. It also received specialized training on professional software such as Blender and CAD.

On Tencent WorkBuddy, benchmarks show an average score of 83.18 and a pass rate of 96.15 percent, with Hy4 ranking first in nine of twelve scenarios in the mainland Chinese market. Through WorkBuddy, Hy4 connects with WeCom workflow data across chats, emails, documents, calendars and meetings, tracks project history and flags meetings and deadlines.

Financial and development results

Hy4 was optimized for financial analysis by training on specialized workspaces and real-world tasks. In a blind evaluation with 213 financial professionals, including 153 external experts and about 70 percent with more than five years of experience, Hy4 achieved the highest overall score across 579 tasks. Its score was 3.04, compared with 2.97 for DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash-1017 and 2.68 for Kimi K3.1 Pro and GLM-5.3. Hy4 reduced its hallucination rate from 12.95 percent in Hy4 Preview to 7.2 percent.

For frontend and game development, Hy4 integrates with Unreal Engine, Unity and Godot, and compared with Hy4 Preview it improved by 19.1 percent in GameDev and 9.8 percent in GameLogic benchmarks. In scientific research, Tencent cited TenureTrail validation across 123 tasks in seven disciplines and said the Hy team open-sourced HyCell and HyPDE models.

Safety, availability and pricing

Tencent Hy said safeguards cover training and release. Hy4 is trained on defensive security data, prioritizing proof-of-concept development and vulnerability remediation, while offensive exploitation materials are excluded. Tencent's Xuanwu Lab and Keen Security Lab found no significant concerns about Hy4's offensive cybersecurity capabilities in evaluated areas. On biosafety, internal reviews found strong foundational biological knowledge but more limited open-ended experimental design compared with frontier models.

Hy4 is available on Tencent Cloud TokenHub, WorkBuddy, CodeBuddy, Yuanbao, WeCom's AI Assistant Dayuan and ima. Pricing remains approximately US$0.90 per million input tokens, US$2.70 per million output tokens and US$0.045 per million cached input tokens. Hy4 Flash is scheduled for release soon, and WorkBuddy and CodeBuddy will be free from November 4 to 15. Hy4 will be available on Tencent Cloud TokenHub at 50 percent off standard pricing through December 31, 2026.
