Brad Feld's List of the Real Luxuries in Life
In a short Labor Day post, investor Brad Feld shared a twelve-item list of what he calls the real luxuries in life — from time and health to people who love you back.
In a post published on September 5, 2026, on his blog Feld Thoughts, investor Brad Feld shared a list of what he calls the real luxuries in life. The entry is marked as a one-minute read, and most of it is the list itself, which Feld says Amy texted him the day before.
The bookends of summer
Feld writes that Labor Day weekend has always been the "back to school" moment of the year for him. Growing up in Dallas, he went back to school only after Labor Day, so that weekend marked the end of summer and the start of fall. Ten years ago, he notes, he wrote that Memorial Day and Labor Day are the bookends of summer.
Twelve luxuries
The list has twelve entries: time; health; a quiet mind; slow mornings; the ability to travel; rest without guilt; a good night's sleep; calm and "boring" days; meaningful conversations; home-cooked meals; people you love; and people who love you back.
Why he wrote it
The framing is age rather than news. Feld writes that he is 60 and closing in on 61, and that he has lately been thinking a lot more about what he actually cares about. He calls it a wonderful list and closes the post by wishing his readers a good long weekend.
