Valor, Atreides and Sequoia back AI startup Flow Engineering at $750M valuation

Flow Engineering, a San Francisco startup that builds AI tools for hardware design, has raised a $50 million Series B round at a $750 million valuation, the company announced on Wednesday. The round was co-led by Antonio Gracias of Valor Equity Partners and Gavin Baker of Atreides Management.

Both firms are best known for backing Elon Musk's companies. Valor Equity Partners has long invested in SpaceX and Tesla, while Atreides Management, a hedge fund, has also backed Musk's ventures and other names such as AI chipmaker Cerebras.

Sequoia returns, Botha joins the board

Sequoia Capital, which led Flow's Series A round last October, participated in the new financing as well. Former Sequoia partner Roelof Botha also invested as an individual, and has joined Flow's board of directors.

AI agents for hardware design

The three-year-old company is taking on a stubborn problem in engineering: hardware design moves far more slowly than software. Flow builds AI agents that automatically align CAD drawings with product requirements, simulation results and other testing data, so that mismatches are caught before parts are built.

Customers

Flow names a roster of customers that includes defense contractor Anduril, EV maker Rivian, air-taxi developer Joby Aviation, General Motors PPU (a joint venture between General Motors and TWG Motorsports), RV Tech (a Rivian and Volkswagen joint venture) and rocket company Stoke Space, among others.

The goal of the raise is to make hardware iteration as fast as software, the company said. If the approach scales, it would shorten the design cycles that currently stretch for months across aerospace, automotive and defense programs.
