xAI ships Grok 4.6 for long-running agents

xAI released Grok 4.6, a direct upgrade to Grok 4.5 focused on long-running agents and more ambitious interactive and visual work. According to the company, the model stays with complex tasks across many steps — researching a topic, analyzing information, working across a codebase, or turning an idea into a working application.

Frontier benchmarks, agentic training

Grok 4.6 reaches frontier results on several agentic coding and knowledge-work benchmarks and matches GPT-5.6 Sol on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index, a composite of nine benchmarks. It was trained on a wide range of agentic RL tasks, including knowledge work, general coding and domain-specific environments for kernel optimization, web development and CAD.

Where to use it and what it costs

Grok 4.6 is available in Cursor and Grok Build, with 2x included usage in both for the first week, as well as through the API and partners such as OpenRouter, Vercel and Cloudflare. Pricing starts at $2 per million input tokens and $6 per million output tokens; a fast variant costs twice as much. xAI says safeguards were recalibrated to the model's capabilities, with its widest pre-deployment testing suite to date.
