Woman Arrested in Philadelphia After Blocking Uber Delivery Robot
Carolyn Marvin was charged with disorderly conduct after blocking an Uber delivery robot in Philadelphia and refusing police requests to move. She said she was protesting robots taking human delivery jobs.
Arrest in Center City
Carolyn Marvin was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct after blocking the path of an Uber delivery robot in Philadelphia and refusing to move out of the way. Police responded to the scene and asked Marvin to get out of the robot's way. When she refused, officers placed her in cuffs and arrested her. The incident was captured on video and has drawn considerable media attention.
Marvin told Philadelphia's ABC13: "I know they're taking the jobs of human delivery workers and so, I have been protesting them whenever I saw them by standing in front of them and preventing them from going forward."
Robots on Philadelphia Streets
The delivery robots have become a common sight on the streets of downtown Philadelphia and have sparked backlash. The arrest was not Marvin's first encounter with the machines. Earlier this year, one of the robots was kicked over in Center City.
Broader Concerns About Automation
The case adds to a broad concern about how autonomous systems, including robotaxis, delivery robots, and AI agents, are impacting jobs, especially for lower-skill workers. The report was published by The Verge on Oct 18, 2026 and written by weekend editor Terrence O'Brien.
