TV4 Postpones The Challenge to 2027 After Technical Failure Erases Edited Season

TV4 has postponed the premiere of The Challenge until 2027 after a technical failure in production caused the edited material to disappear. The broadcaster denied a report that an AI agent erased the season and several hundred days of work.

Premiere moved to 2027

TV4 has postponed the premiere of The Challenge until 2027 after a technical failure in production caused the edited material to disappear, according to Ludvig Ternstedt, press officer for the programme at TV4.

In a written comment to TT, Ternstedt said the lost material now has to be edited again. "There has been a technical failure in production that caused the edited material to disappear and now has to be edited again. Therefore, we need to postpone the premiere until 2027," he said.

Broadcaster rejects AI agent account

Reports said an AI agent deleted the edited season and caused the loss of several hundred days of work. TV4 denied that account.

"We don't have the exact details of what happened yet, but it's not true that some evil AI agent acted independently and went in and deleted the material," Ternstedt said.

Format and reaction

The Challenge features famous reality TV contestants competing in tough competitions. The first season aired on TV4 in 2024.

Programme host Ahmed Berhan commented on the report in Aftonbladet. "Is that true?! I knew AI would be the death of me, this is just the beginning," he said.
