Google DeepMind and Google Cloud open frontier models to European researchers
Google DeepMind and Google Cloud will give up to 200 European scientific researchers direct access to frontier models and $3 million in compute credits, the companies said on Wednesday.
Program details
Google DeepMind and Alphabet's cloud service Google Cloud said on Wednesday that up to 200 European scientific researchers will get direct access to their frontier models, together with $3 million in compute credits.
The access covers scientific tools including AlphaFold 3, WeatherNext, AlphaGenome, AlphaEvolve and AlphaEarth Foundations.
The initiative supports the European Union's AI for Science work: some of the companies' frontier models will be made available through the RAISE initiative, which aims to help bridge the compute gap European scientists sometimes face.
Stated aims
According to the companies, the initiative is meant to help researchers tackle complex challenges faster, from predicting extreme weather patterns to mapping molecular structures, and to reinforce the continent's scientific competitiveness.
