AI;DR: A Blogger's New Rule for Unedited AI Text

Technology blogger Rick Manelius has coined a new acronym for a growing frustration: AI;DR — "AI; Didn't Read" — his shorthand for skipping past walls of unedited AI-generated text. In a post on his personal blog, Manelius credits the term to an X user posting under the handle seclilc, and says he has been thinking about it ever since.

A blanket policy

Manelius, who describes himself as broadly pro-AI, outlines a simple rule: if someone cannot be bothered to review and edit AI-generated text before sending it, he will not bother reading it. "If you're not bothered enough to review and edit it... then I'm not going to bother reading it," he writes, framing the approach as an evolution of TL;DR, the abbreviation that once taught readers to skip overly long social media posts.

Where the line sits

He draws an explicit exception for contexts where fully automated responses are expected — customer support being the clearest example, where nobody expects handcrafted dialogue. The objection is narrower: a colleague pasting a wall of chatbot output into a team chat, or a newsletter whose author lets raw model prose go out under their own name. In those cases, he argues, the reader can simply go and ask the model directly, which defeats the purpose of publishing at all.

Since publication, readers have pointed Manelius to sites such as dontpastetheai.com, which urges professionals not to forward raw AI text, and the acronym has resonated well beyond his own blog. His advice to authors stays modest: use AI wherever it helps in the process, but keep the final prose something you are willing to sign. The post's larger point is less about tools than about the standard of care an audience can expect from a named human author.
