Anthropic has launched the Claude Frontier Academy, backed by a $100 million commitment to train 10,000 Frontier Deployed Engineers (FDEs) by the end of 2027. The first cohorts include engineers from Accenture, Bain, Capgemini, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Deloitte, McKinsey, Morgan Stanley and Novo Nordisk, with sessions already running in San Francisco, New York and London. Anthropic describes the Academy as the first initiative of its kind from an AI company.
The Frontier Deployed Engineer Residency
The Academy's first program, the Frontier Deployed Engineer Residency, follows the medical model for building expertise: engineers learn from practitioners, practice on realistic cases and are assessed on their work before they earn the credential. Organizations nominate their strongest engineers, each of whom arrives with a named Claude project to lead on their return; prior experience building AI agents is not required.
The program begins with a multi-day, in-person session led by Anthropic engineers and licensed instructors. Participants work through a simulated enterprise deployment, from use-case selection through security review to handover, and finish with a graded practical on a new scenario. Those who pass earn the Claude Resident Engineer badge and enter a 12-week residency, leading a real Claude use case at their own organization with support from Anthropic's engineers. A final assessment follows; engineers who pass earn the Claude Frontier Deployed Engineer badge, with the first expected in early 2027.
Why enterprises are joining
Anthropic frames the initiative as an answer to a talent bottleneck: companies are racing to adopt AI, but the people who can make deployments work inside a real business have become the hardest talent to find. "No AI company has invested in developing that talent inside its customers and partners at this depth," said Steve Corfield, Anthropic's Global Head of Business Development and Partnerships.
Partner firms describe the same gap. Commonwealth Bank of Australia said its teams have produced up to 3x more code changes in the past year using AI tools. Capgemini said clients ask for firsthand problem-solving rather than certification counts, and McKinsey said the residency sets the bar for applying Claude to its clients' goals. Novo Nordisk uses Claude in R&D and drug discovery research.
Building on the Claude Partner Network
The Academy builds on the Claude Partner Network, where professionals across 46,000 firms have earned more than 175,000 Claude certifications, and nearly 4,000 people have completed Basecamp, an immersive onboarding program. Participation is by nomination; organizations can ask their Anthropic account team whether they are eligible. Anthropic says training 10,000 engineers is the first step of many.
