Reality Check: a 60-second game that tests whether you can spot AI images

A browser game called Reality Check, published on the Slop Sense site, asks players one question per image: is this a real photo or an AI-generated picture? A round lasts sixty seconds.

How it works

The round runs for 60 seconds and allows up to 10 seconds per image. A correct answer is worth 100 points, while a wrong one costs 150. Streak bonuses add 150 points at a 3× streak, 200 at 5× and 300 at 10× or more. A wrong answer or a timeout resets the streak, and a timeout scores nothing. Keyboard shortcuts are provided: 1 for a real photo and 2 for an AI-generated one. An enlarge button lets players inspect an image without answering, though the clock never pauses.

What the image set is made of

The game's data file holds 2,000 entries: 1,000 real photographs and 1,000 generated images. The photographs come mainly from Wikimedia Commons under open licences — among them CC BY-SA 4.0, CC BY-SA 3.0, CC BY 2.0 and CC0 — and each carries its author, source and licence. The generated entries carry the prompt used to produce them, and the page footer states that AI images were made with GPT Image 2.5. One detail stands out: the difficulty field for every entry reads "Unmeasured", so the pairs were not calibrated against measured human accuracy.

Why it is interesting

When the round ends, the game reveals all the images with their provenance: authors and licences for the photographs, prompts for the generated ones. That turns the score into something checkable rather than a matter of opinion, and it makes the game a quick, informal test of how well human intuition still holds up where the visual evidence of a real photograph is no longer reliable on its own.
