Citroën Revives Iconic 2 CV as Electric Concept Car at Paris Motor Show
Citroën has unveiled an all-electric concept revival of its iconic 2 CV at the Paris Motor Show, with a production model targeted within two years at a starting price of 15,000 euros.
The Return of an Icon
Citroën has brought back the iconic 2 CV as an electric concept car, unveiling the revival of its compact city cruiser at the Paris Motor Show. The French automaker first teased the all-electric return of the 2 CV in March. The original model was revealed during the Paris Motor Show in 1948 and later gained pop culture fame as James Bond's choice of car in For Your Eyes Only.
Design and Interior
The 2 CV Concept shares a similar design language to the original, updated with modern tweaks. Citroën emphasized the affordability, lightness, practicality and versatility of the original, while adding quirky touches such as a brake pedal with a tortoise symbol and an accelerator with a rabbit.
Inside, the concept maximizes passenger space with recessed door panels, wide seats and a removable front seat. Citroën replaced the center console with a removable storage basket and opted for a detachable radio. Instead of a traditional dashboard, the concept features a singular stem that supports a steering wheel, control lever, paddle-shift gear selector and an eight-inch touchscreen.
Production Plans
Citroën announced that the concept will inspire a production model going to market within the next two years, with a target starting price of 15,000 euros, or around $16,800. The company said it is looking to create a more accessible, lighter and more essential electric car. As with most conceptual cars, many of the playful ideas are unlikely to reach a production model subject to strict auto regulations. Citroën does not sell its cars in the United States.
