Cloudflare Ships 46 Announcements During 16th Birthday Week
Cloudflare marked its 16th birthday with 46 announcements spanning open source tooling, post-quantum security, agent monetization, and developer platform expansion.
Open Source and Developer Tools
Cloudflare kicked off its 16th Birthday Week on Monday, September 28 with a series of open source announcements. The company introduced cf, an agentic CLI that mirrors the Cloudflare API with JSON-first output and typed configuration, alongside Forge, an open source pipeline that generates SDKs, CLIs, and documentation from API definitions. Also unveiled was EmDash, an open source Astro-based serverless CMS that runs plugins in isolated Worker sandboxes.
Additional Monday releases included Vinext 1.0 for running Next.js applications on Vite, a Kitesurf update adding WebMCP support for agent browsers, and BEACON, a public BigQuery dataset of anonymized real-user performance measurements from 10,000 major websites.
Security and the Post-Quantum Transition
On Tuesday, September 29, Cloudflare announced its intention to become a public certificate authority, twelve years after launching Universal SSL. The planned CA will issue free Merkle Tree Certificates designed to make post-quantum authentication practical. The company also introduced CryptoLabe, an AI tool that finds and classifies cryptography across its codebase as it works toward completing its post-quantum migration by 2029.
Other security announcements included an IETF extension preventing quantum downgrade attacks against IPsec, post-quantum key exchange visibility in HTTP Analytics and Logpush, Application Profiles for enforcing positive security models, and Threat Signals, free agentic threat intelligence skills for every Cloudflare account.
The Agent Economy and Platform Expansion
Wednesday, September 30 brought economic tools for the agentic Internet, including the Monetization Gateway beta, which lets sellers charge AI agents for consumption using HTTP 402 and x402, and Pay Per Use, which gives publishers usage reports and payouts when verified AI buyers use their content. Cloudflare also reported that its Impact initiatives, including Project Galileo, have delivered more than $100 million in donated services.
Thursday and Friday rounded out the week with the general availability of Cloudflare Basin, a serverless data platform built on Apache Iceberg and R2, and K2, durable serverless event streams on R2. The company also launched Cloudflare Traces for request-level visibility, announced it now ranks as the fastest provider across 74% of the top 1,000 networks, and shared an update on its intern program, one year after announcing a goal to hire 1,111 interns.
