Google Cloud London zone outage disrupts multiple services for major customers

A failure in the europe-west2-b availability zone knocked out numerous Google Cloud services on Tuesday morning, hitting major UK brands including Lloyds, HSBC, Royal Mail and Revolut. Google has provided no estimated recovery time.

Google Cloud confirms London zone failure

Google Cloud customers across Western Europe faced severe disruption on Tuesday after one of three availability zones in the company's London region went offline. The incident in europe-west2-b began at 0608 UTC on October 20, 2026, and affected multiple services simultaneously.

According to Google Cloud's status page, the europe-west2 region was experiencing elevated errors and intermittent network failures. The company confirmed that BigQuery Data Transfer Service, Cloud Filestore, Cloud Run, Google App Engine, Google Cloud NetApp Volumes, Google Kubernetes Engine and Managed Service for Apache Kafka were all impacted.

Google said its engineering team was investigating the issue and apologized to those affected. The company initially reported no workarounds were available and did not provide an estimated recovery time.

Major brands caught in the outage

Outage tracking site Down Detector showed a sharp spike in reports tied to Google Cloud. Among the organizations affected were Lloyds Bank, HSBC, Royal Mail, Rightmove, DPD, BT, Cloudflare, Screwfix and Revolut.

Revolut issued a statement acknowledging the service disruption. The company said it could confirm that all customer money and data were safe, adding that it had been working to fix the issue since it was identified that morning and apologizing for any inconvenience caused.

Community reports cascading effects

System administrators discussing the incident on Reddit described a cascading impact across multiple suppliers. One commenter characterized the situation as a single zone failure affecting services that had not been configured for high availability. Others noted problems with DNS resolution.

On X, formerly Twitter, customers expressed frustration at the disruption. One user described it as a major GCP incident affecting Europe regions and a poor start to the day.

Google provides limited guidance

By mid-morning Google had updated its status page to clarify that Studio was not impacted by the outage. The company also suggested that customers who could do so might try migrating affected workloads to another available location as a possible workaround.

Google said it planned to provide a further update at approximately 0930 UTC. As of the last reported update at 1018 UTC on October 20, 2026, no estimated time for full recovery had been communicated.
