Samsung Affiliates Commit USD 1 Billion to AI Infrastructure Firm Helix

Samsung Electronics and five other Samsung affiliates have committed a combined USD 1 billion investment in Helix Digital Infrastructure, an AI infrastructure company established by global investment firm KKR. The announcement was published by Samsung Newsroom on September 29, 2026.

Samsung Electronics is contributing USD 500 million, while the remaining amount comes from Samsung C&T, Samsung SDS, Samsung SDI, Samsung Life Insurance and Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance. Launched in June 2026, Helix delivers integrated solutions across the whole value chain: hyperscale data center development and operations, power generation covering baseload and flexible sources, transmission and distribution infrastructure, and fiber-optic networks.

Who stands behind Helix

Helix is led by Adam Selipsky, former CEO of Amazon Web Services, and is assembling a management team of experts from the data center and power industries. It also draws on KKR's global infrastructure business, which has about 170 dedicated professionals. Alongside Samsung, KKR, the Kuwait Investment Authority, NVIDIA and US power company Vistra are founding investors.

Samsung's role across the AI infrastructure stack

Samsung Electronics' Device Solutions Division supplies semiconductors for the global buildout. Its Device eXperience Division offers data center cooling products, from air cooling to coolant distribution units for liquid cooling, through FläktGroup, the HVAC specialist it acquired in 2025. The company operates 14 production sites worldwide and a supply and service network across 65 countries.

Samsung C&T's Engineering & Construction Group works as an engineering, procurement and construction contractor on large data center and power generation projects. Samsung SDS designs, builds and operates data centers, recently entered the GPU-as-a-Service business and reports the lowest power usage effectiveness (PUE) level in Korea, applied at its own facilities and at the Korea AI Computing Center. Samsung SDI focuses on uninterruptible power supplies and battery backup units for servers that run around the clock.

Why power remains the bottleneck

Samsung says AI data centers are evolving from simple facility investments into core business platforms that combine GPU-as-a-Service, Sovereign AI and colocation services. That expansion pulls in power generation, cooling, semiconductors and finance. Because power availability is currently the greatest bottleneck in AI infrastructure, Helix plans to secure energy capacity through direct investments and partnerships with major energy developers, including Vistra.

For Samsung, the investment expands its role from a hardware component supplier to an architect of the global AI infrastructure ecosystem.
