Trump launches America.gov, an AI front door to federal services

President Trump launched a website on Tuesday that uses artificial intelligence to help Americans navigate the federal government and find information and services. He presented America.gov at an event at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington.

Trump thanked Joe Gebbia, the Airbnb co-founder who now leads the National Design Studio (NDS) and serves as the first-ever U.S. chief design officer. According to the president, Gebbia was the "mastermind behind many of the incredible breakthroughs."

One front door for every question

The site features a search bar where users can ask how to navigate a given service. It tells users that all answers come from official government websites and includes links to the original sources.

Trump said the project has been in the works since the early days of his second administration. "Instead of forcing citizens to search through the endless maze of tens of thousands of terrible government websites and rules, and more than 10,000 forms, you'll now have one front door for every single question," he said.

Forms and applications from 2027

According to the website, in early 2027 users will be able to complete forms, applications and renewals, including enrolling in Medicare and applying for a passport.

At the event, Trump signed an executive order directing federal agencies to make their services integrate with the new platform. Officials demonstrated what the site can do, and Cabinet members, administration officials and tech leaders attended.

Privacy promises and scrutiny

Trump said the site "in theory" cannot be hacked. "It's built from the ground up with your privacy and security totally in mind," he said, adding that personal information is not collected or stored, the conversation disappears when a user leaves, and everything stays private.

The Associated Press reported that the site's government-sourced AI answers undercut many of Trump's own statements, a finding that ties the accuracy of the responses to the official sources behind them.
