Meta's Muse AI agent gets email, computer use and video calls

Meta has announced a new round of upgrades for Muse, the AI agent it launched earlier this month. The most notable addition is email: Muse agents are getting their own email addresses, which they can use to carry out tasks. Users will also be able to write to their agent at that address, so the assistant is no longer confined to the chat window.

The Muse Mac app, which launched only recently, is likewise gaining the ability to use a computer: the agent will be able to perform actions on the device. Meta has not detailed what the feature will be capable of, but it puts Muse in the same territory as tools that click through apps and websites on a user's behalf.

Video calls with your avatar

Video is the second front. Until now, the main way to talk with Muse has been the chat interface, but users will soon be able to hold live video conversations with their Muse avatar. According to Meta, the avatar's voice will also be adjustable — its appearance is already customizable — while a new "Muse Realtime Avatar" model will determine how the character moves.

App Store momentum and smart glasses

The updates arrive after Muse, released earlier this month, turned out to be a hit. The app is topping the App Store charts and, according to TechCrunch, drew more mobile downloads than ChatGPT in its first 12 days. Meta also plans to bring Muse to its smart glasses in the coming months, so wearers can ask the agent about whatever they are looking at.
